Work Experience
Empowering the Next Generation of Creative Professionals
At Children’s World, we are proud to offer flexible work experience placements designed to bridge the gap between college theory and professional practice. We have been fortunate to collaborate closely with students from Strode College, providing them with a high-energy platform to complete essential work assignments. Whether it is mastering filmmaking and digital editing, refining interview skills, or managing live sound and technical production, our events offer a real-world environment for students to excel.
Our placements are specifically tailored to support students working towards a variety of industry-recognised qualifications, including:
-
BTEC & UAL Level 3 Diplomas in Creative Media, Performing Arts, and Production.
-
T Levels in Media, Broadcast, and Production.
-
Technical Diplomas in Music Technology and Live Sound.
By integrating college targets into our workshops and raves, we help young creatives build a professional portfolio and gain the confidence needed to thrive in the arts and entertainment industries.
If you are a student or a tutor looking for a placement that combines creative freedom with professional rigour, get in touch to see how we can support your journey.
Revolutionising Futures: Our New Vocational SEND Pilot
We are thrilled to introduce our vision of an innovative new vocational pilot scheme designed to transform employment outcomes for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across Glastonbury and Mendip.
In Somerset, young people with learning disabilities often face a "double disadvantage" of rural isolation and a significant "disability price tag"—with households facing extra costs of approximately £1,095 per month. Nationally, the statistics are stark: currently, only 4.8% of people with an EHCP successfully transition into sustained employment.
This programme will be designed to bridge this gap. Through high-quality, supported work placements in partnership with Devito’s Circus and Soundvision, we will be creating a unique pathway from the classroom to the workplace.
A National First in Creative Vocational Training?
While supported internships exist, combining the technical rigour of professional circus arts and digital sound production into a formal vocational pathway for SEND students is a highly innovative approach. By merging "high-impact" creative skills with "low-risk" professional environments, we aim to offer a model that hasn't been seen at this scale in the UK.
Our project will be purposefully designed to cater to both specialist SEN environments and mainstream settings, where the need for tailored support is critical. Research shows that students with additional needs in mainstream schools often face significant barriers to employment due to a lack of bespoke vocational pathways and "soft skill" development. By bridging this gap, we aim to ensure that all students, regardless of their setting, have a clear and supported route into the professional world.
Project Timeline & Development
This scheme is currently in an exciting development phase. We are committed to building this alongside our community to ensure it meets the real-world needs of students and educators:
-
Summer 2026: Initial consultations will take place with local schools, including both mainstream and SEN settings.
-
Autumn 2026: Further Consultations will take place with other organisations interested in being part of the scheme.
-
Regular Updates: We will be sharing our progress and insights from these consultations right here on our website.
-
2027: We aim to officially pilot the scheme, welcoming our first cohort of learners.
Safe, Seamless, and ‘Ready-to-Go’
We know how heavy the administrative load can be for school staff. Our Enrichment Programme is being meticulously designed to meet and exceed UK statutory safeguarding and health and safety standards.
By aligning our delivery with afPE Safe Practice and the Ofsted Personal Development framework, we will offer schools a 'ready-to-go' solution. From Enhanced DBS-cleared practitioners to detailed, activity-specific risk assessments, we prioritise the safety of your setting so your pupils can focus entirely on the joy of discovery and the pride of professional growth.
If you're in an educational setting supporting young people with SEN and are interested in learning more about this initiative, we would love to hear from you.
Building Brighter Futures Together: Partnering with Employers
To ensure the long-term success of this initiative, we are building a sustainable model that creates lasting links between education and industry. We are keen to hear from local employers who want to support young people in their transition to meaningful work—a move that doesn't just change lives, it also "ticks the boxes" for modern business.
Partnering with us helps employers meet the requirements of the Equality Act 2010 by proactively fostering an inclusive workplace, while also aligning with the Social Value Act, which is increasingly vital for securing public sector contracts. Additionally, with the introduction of the 2026 "Right to Try" legislation, there has never been a more supportive legal framework for helping SEND talent enter the workforce. By offering placements, your business can gain dedicated, skilled team members, improve staff disability confidence, and demonstrate a tangible commitment to social responsibility in the Mendip area.
Watch this space as we build a brighter, more inclusive future for Somerset’s young talent!
