Workshops

Studio 9, Glastonbury

Music & Songwriting (8 – 18 yrs and 12 – 18 yrs) Secret Meeting Rooms BA6 8BS

Monday 12th, 10am – 3pm and Friday 16th, 1pm – 3pm

Led by Charlie and Ian Miller, there are two workshops this year: 8 – 18 yrs (Monday 12th, 10am – 3pm) and 12 – 18 yrs (Friday 16th, 1pm – 3pm). Each group will compose and record a song from scratch. A drum kit, keyboard, mics and digital recording equipment will be available. Attendees are also welcome to bring their own instruments. The recorded song will be available to download via a private link emailed out after production.

Paddington Farm - 1

Farm Forest School (0 – 7 yrs (FULLY BOOKED) and 8 – 18 yrs) Paddington Farm BA6 8JW

Tuesday 13th and Wednesday 14th, 9.30am – 3pm

Led by the team at Paddington Farm, a day of outdoor fun and frolics is promised to all who come. Meet and feed the animals, play in the woods, learn a wide range of bushcraft skills and enjoy being outside! As usual there will be two days – one for 0 – 7 yrs (Tuesday 13th) and one for 8 – 18 yrs (Wednesday 14th). Wear old clothes and be prepared for possible mud. Come rain or shine there will always be something to do!

Cookery (8 – 18 yrs) St Dunstan’s School BA6 9BY

Monday 12th (2 spaces left) and Tuesday 13th (FULLY BOOKED), 10am – 3pm

Led again by Ann Webb, this extremely popular workshop is back with another two workshop days. A fun, practical way to learn the basics of food preparation and cooking – with the added bonus of eating the results! The cost of this workshop is £8 – slightly more than the other workshops to help cover the cost of the provided ingredients. We advise people to book early, as these days fill up very quickly! If your child has special dietary needs please notify us when booking.

ParkourJump

Parkour (8 – 18 yrs) St Benedict’s School BA6 9EX

Tuesday 13th, 10am – 3pm (FULLY BOOKED)

A very popular workshop, we’re pleased to be able to offer it again. This year run by Jack Rees, participants will have a chance to learn beginner level parkour;  including jumping and landing, rolling and vaulting, climbing and balancing. We advise people to book early for this workshop to ensure a place.

Magic (8 – 18 yrs) St Benedict’s School BA6 9EX

Friday 16th, 10am – 3pm

Steve Watson is back to inspire budding magicians! Alongside showing and teaching a variety of illusions, card tricks and misdirection, attendees will learn the art of presenting – transforming their tricks into a magical experience! At the end of the day, all apprentices will perform an entertaining and magical show for their siblings, parents and carers.

A fun filled, creative and energetic  workshop led by Angela Smith from Tor Theatre. Music and movement guaranteed to give you and your children a great time!

Circus_Workshop

Circus Skills (8 – 18 yrs) St Benedict’s school BA6 9EX

Thursday 15th, 10am – 3pm

Led by Flora Alwen, from Circus Stars Frome, there will be opportunities to try stilts, unicycles, juggling, diabolo, hula hoops, poi and simple acro-balance! All with expert help and guidance.

Thursday 15th, 10am – 3pm

Run by Maxine Ridout-Prime from Taking the Space, this workshop will use drama games and improvisation working towards a short performance for siblings, parents and carers at the end of the day. A great workshop for budding actors!

This is a popular workshop led by Glastonbury storyteller, David Reakes from Tor Theatre. The children will spend the morning learning stories and playing drama based games. A great, creative and fun experience for all.

Tuesday 13th, Wednesday 14th, Thursday 15th and Friday 16th, 1 – 3pm

Yeast Scrapstore will be open Tuesday – Friday afternoons from 1 – 3pm for parents and their children 0 – 7 yrs to come and create and play.  This is a great opportunity to have quality, creative time with your children!

Graffiti Art (12 – 18 yrs) Glastonbury Skate Park BA6 9NT (if dry) or Paddington Farm BA6 8JW (if wet)

Monday 12th, 1pm – 3pm

Run by Dan from Rogues Gallery – this workshop will give attendees the chance to express themselves through urban art. If the weather is dry the venue will be the Glastonbury Skate Park, if wet it will take place at Paddington farm. We’ll be using water-based paints, but paint friendly clothes should be worn!

Picnic with the Police (all ages) Abbey Park BA6 9EN

Tuesday 13th, 10.30am – 12.30pm

Led by local PSCOs Charlotte, Mel and Katie – a chance to meet and chat in an informal, family friendly setting. There will be some cakes and snacks provided, but please feel free to bring your own picnic (and picnic blankets) too. There will be cover available in the unlikely chance of rain!

Birds of Prey Experience (0 – 7 yrs) Paddington Farm BA6 8JW

Monday 12th, 10.30am – 12.30pm

A chance to get up close to some living, breathing, flying birds of prey! This workshop is provided by Alan Wells from Pitcombe Rock Falconry. He will be bringing an owl, buzzard, hawk and more – and, and well as teaching us about the mazing world of birds of prey, will give a demonstration of the birds in flight.

An atmospheric evening walk around Paddington Farm, rounded off with a campfire and roasted marshmallows!

Bill Bailey is back with this exciting workshop that demonstrates basic science in action. Lots of different activities, including making bottle rockets! Perfect for inquisitive minds!

A chance to find out what goes on at local Youth Clubs for those that haven’t been before and to meet up in the summer holidays, for those that have.

The Youth Club at Windmill Hill (St Edmund’s Hall BA6 8EG) will be open Wednesday 14th and will be free to visit.

The Youth Club at the Red Brick Building (BA6 9FT) will be open Friday 16th and has an entrance fee of 50p.

Flash Mob 2019 (all ages) St Benedict’s School BA6 9EX and the Market Cross BA6 9EU

Our annual Flash Mob is back to delight us all! This event is free and open to the whole community. Led by Leela Bunce, from Shinetime, rehearsals will take place on Monday 12th and Thursday 15th 1.30 – 2.30pm at St. Benedict’s School BA6 9EX. No need to be there for all the rehearsals – the routine will be easy to pick up no matter what your ability. Just pop along if you can on Monday, Thursday or Friday (just before the performance) or teach yourself from our online posts, which you’ll be able to find on our Off the Streets Facebook page and Children’s World website.

Our community performance will take place at the Market Cross BA6 9EU on Friday 16th at midday (meet at St Benedict’s School BA6 9EX at 11.30am).

Self Defence with the Police (12 -18 yrs) Abbey Park BA6 9EN

Tuesday 13th, 1pm – 3pm

Taught by Tony, a fully qualified self-defence expert, who has been working with Avon &Somerset Police over the past year, this workshop will work through various scenarios and teach practical steps to both avoid and deal with threatening situations. Our local Police will also be taking part and available to answer any questions.

The class will take place in a marquee at Abbey Park BA6 9EN.

Light Painting Photography (0 – 7 yrs – FULLY BOOKED), 8 – 18 yrs and 12 – 18 yrs) St Dunstan’s School BA6 9BY

Wednesday 14th, 10:30am – 12:30pm and 1pm – 3pm and Friday 16th, 10am – 3pm

A new workshop for this year, provided by the talented Kim Von Coels of the Krumble Empire. Explore and take part in Light Painting Photography, which uses different sources of light e.g. torches, glow sticks etc, in a dark room with cameras using a long exposure to create a colourful background for subjects (See pic). An exciting and unusual creative experience!

Kim is providing three workshops: 0 – 7 yrs Wednesday 14th, 10.30am – 12.30pm (Fully Booked). Then 12 – 18 yrs Wednesday 14th, 1pm – 3pm (£3.50) and 8 – 18 yrs Friday 16th, 10am – 3pm (£5).

Bricklaying & Engie Site Tour (12 – 18 yrs) Engie Construction Site BA6 9LE

Thursday 15th, 1pm – 3pm

After an induction, and being fitted out with hard hats, work boots and high viz, attendees will be taken on a tour of the Engie Construction Site. Including areas not usually accessible to the public. After the tour, there will be a lesson in the art of bricklaying and the chance to practice the new building skills gained.
