Annual Report 2003-4

Treasurer's Report

on the period 1 Sept 2003 to 31 Aug 2004

Despite slightly less incoming resources available to spend on charitable activities and increased expenditure (because even more workshops were undertaken) this was a satisfactory period of financial consolidation for Children's World.

Net income was £105,438 available to spend on charitable activities (£110,726) and total charitable expenditure was £94,009 (£81,368), creating net incoming resources of £11,429 (£29,358).

With fundraising from trusts becoming increasingly more difficult, we are very pleased to have raised so much of our income ourselves.
  • Our Children's Festivals made £18,185 and our fundraising sister-company Children's World Enterprises Ltd. raised £14,381 from its activities.
  • Schools and other organisations contributed £20,868 towards the cost of workshops we staged for them.
This meant that of the £94,009 needed for charitable expenditure, only £40,575 (43.2%) had to be found from grant-giving trusts and other bodies.

We currently have free reserves of £84,714 - sufficient for 10 months of charitable expenditure. We would, however, wish to build higher reserves to protect the Charity's work in the future, particularly as we have come to the end of the multi-year funding periods from the Lankelly Foundation and the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation, whose support has been invaluable over this period of growth and to whom we would like to express our deepest thanks.

Children's World urgently needs to find specific funding for the wages of our 2 Chief Workshop Leaders and we will be researching major trusts in in the coming months in an effort to find appropriate donors.
