Schools' Festival Tour 1999

This Tour was based on Relationships and how they affect us. We highlighted specific emotions such as anger, fear and sadness which people often feel when relationships break down. Our aim was to enable the children to form clearer and cleaner relationships and learn how to communicate their feelings and needs as well as listen to others. We hoped to show how by making relationships better one can make things "work" better. As with all our Integration Tours, an underlying theme was creating good relationships between the pupils and staff of Special Schools and neighbouring mainstream schools which will benefit all the children.

The main message was Relationships need Communication.

Below is an account of a typical workshop week. This particular week was held at Widcome Junior School, Bath. Students from Widcome, Summerfield Special School, and Lime Grove Special School took part.

Here are our main characters, THE SILLY BILLIES!

"SILLY BILLIES.....SILLY BILLIES......COULD BE YOU!"

Do you remember the SILLY BILLIES'song?
Can you remember the tune?

picture of Silly Billy Bundle The Silly Billies are really very silly, aren't they? They don't seem to be able to get anything right, do they? And they are not very nice to each other, are they? And they get themselves all upset and have Silly Billy Bundles.

On Monday, the Silly Billies were trying to make a cup of tea They couldn't get it right, could they? Do you remember what happened? Tell your teacher what happened? How should they have done it?

On Tuesday we saw the Silly Billies having their breakfast. It all started nice and quietly didn't it? Then Poo put on the telly much too loud and things all started to go wrong. Do you remember what else happened?... Tell your teacher.

On Wednesday there were problems at school! What did the Caretaker do that so upset the Teacher? What did GaGa do to Poo that made her angry?

On Thursday the Silly Billies were in the garden. It was all quite peaceful wasn't it? And then what happened? How did the Silly Billies react? Was this a sensible thing to do?

Friday was slightly different wasn't it? What world issues were featured in Rinky Dinky's paper? There were 4 of them. What happened at the end? They all went up in smoke, didn't they! What a bunch of Silly Billies!

Here are some pictures of the Workshop Week.

You have also been doing some work on Emotions haven't you?
You worked on different emotions during the Workshop Week, didn't you?
Can you remember the 3 different emotions you worked on?
Tell your teacher.

You also made collages didn't you? You drew pictures of Fear, Anger and Sorrow, and then you cut bits out of newspapers and magazines which would make you feel better.

Here is the collage that Kate's group made.

They are really good!....Well done!

All the children you worked with during the Workshop Week will be attending the Schools Festival Day and also lots more children from your school, and lots more children from the other schools in other towns that took part. You'll have a lovely day! When you arrive at the Schools Festival Day, we will all sing our Hullo Song to greet each other.

Then you will see a puppet play by Parachute Theatre Company (Lynne and Nick), who Limegrove and Summerfield will know already. You will meet Dangerous Dave, who does amazing tricks. You might also see Granny and Wheeler from "Noah" and maybe your old friends Punk and Judy.

After the puppet performance you will go in the amazing Colour Maze, and you will play parachute games (Which is your favourite parachute game - Cat and Mouse or Parachute Football?) Then you can play with some wonderful, huge, inflatable animals. We will all have our packed lunches together and then you will sing the "Friends" song with the special verses you made up, and parade the wonderful collage banners that you have made.
