The Clown's Diary
Monday 21 March
Monday was spent running around other larger N.G.O.s (non-Government Agencies), handing out Children's World International infomation sheets, giving details of our future movments and planned shows in the hope that they might wish to make use of us in the Autumn.
Then I took a 6 hour bus drive to Batticaloa, south of Trincomalee. When I arrived, I looked for a hotel. There was a big "Business for Peace" conference taking place in town, and all the hotels were booked up. Eventully I gave up hope of finding one and went to a hotel restaurant for a drink while I decided where would be the best place to camp out. (No real hardship in this weather, unless a flash stom occurs). At the restaurant I met a Lady from a Dutch N.G.O. and we got talking. She asked me to show her some magic, so I started doing my ping-pong ball routine. It amused her and must have impressed the waiter, because 5 minutes later I had a bed in the servants' quarters. The place was bare, made of concrete and very basic, but still so much better than sleeping under a bridge for the night. I now have a proper room in the same hotel for the next night. It's called the Bridge View Hotel. You can't see the large, long bridge from here, but it does have its own, mini 2 foot long one!
