Spring 2000 Music and Movement Tour

For children with severe learning difficulties
and profound and multiple learning difficulties

This tour consisted of 5 weekly sessions of between 60 and 90 minutes and visited the following schools:
  • Critchill Special school, Frome
  • Baytree Special school, Weston-S-Mare
  • Kingsweston Special school, Avonmouth
  • Fosseway Special school, Radstock
  • Penrose Special school, Bridgwater
  • Fiveways Special school, Yeovil
  • Avalon Special school, Street
  • Selworthy Special school, Taunton
The aim of this tour was to explore and experience life in three different environments and to portray these environments in dance form. The three environments were;
  • Under the sea
  • On the land
  • In the air

Each week we would be taken on a musical 'journey' through the enviroment, exploring the different lifeforms and objects that might be there. Then we would recap the ideas and rehearse and perform a dance/movement piece that told a simple story of life in that enviroment.

Each school was encouraged to bring suitable materials for that weeks session to decorate the hall to enhance the atmosphere for their performance. This resulted in one school, Penrose, incorporating a real picnic as part of their "On The Land" dance!

Another enjoyable and successful tour as the following quotes show.
