The Glastonbury Children's Festival 2000

was held at the Abbey Park playground,Glastonbury on the 28th,29th,30th,and 31st of July 2000

The Festival was open from 10.30 a.m. until 5.00 p.m. on each of its 4 days. Each day there were 20 perfomances in the Theatre Marquee, on the Outside Stage and in the Arena. Performers booked included Rudi Wallenda and his amazing, exploding Clown Car and Haggis and Charlie, jugglers extraordinaires. Parachute Theatre Company, who were unable to join us last year, returned with their wonderful puppet shows "Oh Noah!" and "Punk and Judy". Booper the Clown was with us again (28 &29) with lots of madcap foolery and so was Nathaniel, whose stories stretched everyone's imaginiations to their limits (29 & 30). The High Flyers were there displaying their tremendous trampolining skills and Anne Harris brought her wonderful menagerie of giant animals in "Rock 'n Roll Circus". D.N.A puppet theatre (28 &29), The Flying Chestycoffs, and from Australia, Shep, Cowboy, Captain Frodo and the Happy Sideshow also presented tremendous shows.

As well as the many wonderful performances, there was a velcro wall to leap at and stick to, lots of inflatables to bounce on, our Dino the Dinosaur ballpool and a ballpool and a teacups ride for younger children.

Bosco Circus ran juggling and circus skills workshops and Co-Ordinated Chaos ran Monster Ball games shows.

In the Workshop Marquee children could make a hat, mask or costume and wear it in each day's Grand Parade. They could design and make a badge and have their face painted. Each day there was a Talent Show and children could come and show off their favourite "party piece" ( a song, a dance, a story, a joke?) or show off a new circus skill they had learnt at the Festival.

All the above performances, workshops and activities were free once the entrance fee had been paid (£5 daily for children and £3 daily for adults and under-5's, with discounts for special needs, UB40's, large families and 4-day tickets.)

There was a Children's World cafe and ice cream stall raising funds for the Charity, and there were a few stalls selling cheap beads and jewellery, children's books, toys, clothes, etc. There was a small charge for going on the High Flyers trampolines and the Giant Slide, but all the other performances, workshops and activities were included in the entrance fee.

"This is the best event I have ever taken my children to - so much on offer and such good value. We had a really enjoyable and happy day"wrote a parent after last year's Glastonbury Children's Festival.
