Children's World offers a

Drama/Video Workshop on Behaviour

Team and Students
A 2-person Children’s World team works with a class (or group selected by the school) of 30 students from Years 5, 6, 7 or 8, for the whole of a school day.

Discussion and Activity
Discussions are held so that the students can talk freely about what they see as “negative”, “bad” or “anti-social” behaviour.  Examples are given by the students, and they are encouraged to explore all the possible reasons that might lead to that behaviour, and also, as realistically as possible, to predict the consequences of that behaviour.  The results of these discussions are then improvised and acted out by the students and filmed.

After the Workshop
The footage is then edited by Children’s World to create a piece of drama that encapsulates the students’ ideas.  At the end of the film, questions relevant to the subject will be added to the screen, to encourage further discussion of the issues raised.  The resulting film will be burned onto a DVD and given to the school so that it can be used in PSHE classes.

Topics that can be addressed
This Workshop can address any difficult area such as Bullying, Peer pressure or Transition.

Cost
Cost: £475 plus mileage.

Notes and feedback
This day-long Workshop is an adaptation of a Tour that we take to special schools for children with moderate learning difficulties and emotional and behavioural difficulties - it has now been adapted so that it will work well with mainstream pupils in Years 5, 6, 7 and 8.

Students really enjoy this Workshop, and staff feel that they are extremely beneficial, enabling children to talk openly about difficult subjects and think consequences through, while at the same time raising self-esteem and self-confidence and encouraging respect for self and others.

“Our school gained so much from working with Children’s World. The pupils enjoy the opportunity to explore, through drama, issues such as bullying, emotions and feelings. They have written and filmed their own plays and have been encouraged to evaluate all they have done. The way Paddy and Charlie work encourages even the most reluctant or shy child to take part. Their skills are tremendous. Every year the children complete a DVD of their work, which has been used in many ways during Assemblies, as training for behavioural issues and as evidence for teachers to support PSHE qualifications. Ofsted made favourable comments about these workshops last year during their visit.”
