Children's World offers an
ANTI-BULLYING 1-DAY WORKSHOPA 3-person Children’s World team works with a class of approximately 30 students from Years 5, 6, 7 or 8 for the whole morning, discussing the subject of “Bullying” in all its many guises. The group then works on a movement piece, with specially composed music, entitled “The Bully and the Victim”, (which tells the story of a fictional child’s experience of different forms bullying in the playground – exclusion, teasing and emotional and physical abuse) in readiness for a performance later that day. The afternoon session consists of a Debate, attended by the whole Year Group (or in smaller schools all relevant Year Groups) with an audience of up to 250 students. The afternoon begins with the presentation by the morning workshop students’ emotive movement performance of “The Bully and the Victim”. Using this as a starting point, Children’s World hosts a debate with the audience of children (and staff representatives and school counsellors where possible). At the end of the afternoon session each student is given a leaflet about bullying - either the Childline leaflet or the school’s own anti-bullying information. The students are also given a questionnaire, which should be filled in anonymously, The responses to the questionnaires can then easily be compiled by school staff into a graph, showing how students deal with bullying situations, - this can lead to further useful discussions in class or assemblies about the subject of bullying and how improvements can be made. Our Anti-Bullying Workshop Day has visited many Somerset and (what was) Avon primary and secondary schools over the last 6 years – this Workshop is great fun (as are all Children’s World’s workshops) and is much enjoyed by the students, which is obviously very important and crucial to its success. It is deemed to be extremely thought-provoking and beneficial by school staff, and an excellent, easy and accessible way of approaching this perennial, difficult subject, which almost every school has to deal with. (A possible follow-up to this Anti-Bullying Workshop day is a session when students can work with Children’s World to create their own Anti-Bullying Policy. Where appropriate, parents can also be invited to the Presentation and Debate.) Cost: £500 plus mileage “Somerset Children’s Fund has been pleased to work with Children’s World on several occasions over the last years, bringing Anti-Bullying Workshops into schools and other settings. The workshops have, without fail, been very well received by the agencies and participants alike. The Children’s World team have always been very professional, working well with the host organisation. They offer good value for money, bring skills, knowledge and enthusiasm, and provide imaginative and stimulating input on a variety of issues including the thing which is of such great importance to children, young people and their families - Bullying. Above all, the members of Children’s World are able to communicate effectively and meaningfully with children and young people, to such an extent that the children have great fun, really do participate in the action and yet are seemingly unaware that what is going on is an Anti-Bullying Workshop. We recommend these Children’s World workshops without reserve.”Programme Manager, Somerset Children’s Fund How to book the workshop Write to Children's World 2, St. Edmund's Cottages, Bovetown, Glastonbury, Somerset BA6 8JE, England Email: ArabellaChurchill@childrensworldcharity.org Telephone: (0044) 01458 832925 Fax: (0044) 01458 834484 |
