We have recently been introduced to the Bhopal Medical Appeal charity (it turns out we share a patron), who support 2 clinics in the Bhopal region of India.
As some of you may remember, the area suffered from a deadly gas leak in December 1984 from the Union Carbide plant. Half a million people were exposed to the gas and 25,000 have died to date as a result of their exposure. More than 120,000 people still suffer from ailments caused by the accident and the subsequent pollution at the plant site.
Having met with the BMA, we agreed that what CWI has to offer would be a real boost to children, families and communities who are having to live with the ongoing effects of this horrific disaster. We are intending to visit the Bhopal region in the future, bringing our program of performance, games and fun to reach as many people as possible.
